This recipe can be modified to create so many different variations, that although we share our recipe below, you can really mix it up depending on what is in season and what you already have on hand. So just get creative. We would love to hear what you came up with!

Since we have just gone blackberry picking this week (Link to Blackerry picking post here), we have used blackberries, blueberries and strawberries. Trust us, this dessert NEVER disappoints.

Ingredients:

If you are feeling a little creative, break out your cookie cutters and create a theme for your trifle. We went for a patriotic them and used two different size stars. Just slice your pound cake in ½’ slices and cut out a few, and then break up the remaining cake to use in your layers.

We added three layers in our trifle. Your first layer should be pound cake. Then add cool whip mixture and a layer of berries.

If you chose to cut out shapes, now is the time to begin adding them in against the side of the trifle dish, so you can see the shapes as you continue to build.

Continue to build by adding your layers of pound cake, cool whip mixture and berries. Once you get to the top, let your creative side take over. You can pipe the cool whip, add shapes, add whole berries or add other garnishes. It is up to you, and you can’t really go wrong.

Love the stars!

Recipe

Berry Trifle

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 10 - 12 Servings

Berry Trifle

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups blackberries
  • 1 ½ cup blueberries
  • 1 ½ strawberries (halved or quartered depending on size)
  • ½ to 1 cup Grand Marnier
  • ½ jar lemon curd 5 oz.(or make your own)
  • 1 ½ Sara Lee pound cake (found in freezer section or make your own)
  • 3 8 oz Cool Whip (or make your own)
  • Zest from 1 Orange
  • Mint to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak berries in Grand Marnier (we used ½ cup) for 10 minutes then strain
  2. Mix together cool whip, lemon curd and zest from 1 orange using a spatula
  3. If you would like, you can use cookie cutters to cut shapes out using the pound cake. We chose to use stars here for a July 4th or Patriotic theme. Slice the pound cake into ½” slices, cut out your shapes and then break up the remainder pound cake into cubes.
  4. Add cut up pieces of pound cake into your trifle dish as your first layer and then add a 1/3 of the cool whip mixture with a layer of berries
  5. If you chose to use cut out shapes, now is the time to start placing them on the sides of your trifle dish so that they show from the side view. Then add another layer of pound cake, cool whip and berries.
  6. Continue for three layers. On top, you can decorate with more cool whip, berries and cut out shapes. If you want to make the top a little fancier, you can pipe the cool whip, but not necessary
  7. Store in refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

Notes
